Applying For Catholic High School Scholarships
February 16th, 2010

Written by Melanie Ullman
Catholic High School Scholarships are made for those students, who cannot cope up with the rising cost of tuition fees and are in a mental dilemma on how to continue their education. Their parents look for alternatives of getting some kind of financial aid for their children so that they are able to continue their education. These scholarship programs for Catholic high school are actually annual awards, especially for those students who cannot pay for the high Catholic tuition.

Students are considered eligible for the scholarship, based on their household income (there are also specific scholarships for high school freshmen). This is indeed a boon for the students as well as the parents of those students, who wish to carry on with their education, but cannot do so, due to the lack of any kind of financial help. Those who wish to apply for the applications should need to know about the schools of the region in which they would to have their child admitted.

i also have lots of volunteer hours as a teacher aide at a summer school i worked at for two months. and im going to volunteer at st judes hospital. and my friend and i might start a club our junior year.. we dont know..

ROP is usually not approved for a-g so you would not even list it on your UC application (and it doesn’t help you with your GPA). For the science requirement, you must take 2 of the 3 fundamental subjects: biology, chemistry, physics. Long term commitment is favored by the UCs and 3-4 years of foreign language will look good.

UCSD (and most UCs) tends to be academic achievement oriented and favor students with rigorous HS curriculum (high number of a-g and UC-approved honors/AP/IB/CC courses), excellent weighted and unweighted GPA, and stellar SAT/ACT/SAT Subject Test scores. You are also compared to your peers, meaning your academic and extracurricular achievements are viewed in context of students in your HS.

im a freshman at a high school in Georgia and im asian. now there are these stereotypes that asians cant play football and get a football scholarship and that only black and white people could. i believe that by working hard is the only way to be successful and i could actually compete with the black guys there and better than a few. iv already made the freshman team easy and got starting fullback job. but after the freshman year i want to go right up to varsity. i know that will take an enormous amount of work and im up for it. my GPA is 3.8 so far and i could keep that up. please tell me how many miles i should run each day or how i could get stronger or to gain more speed

It depends on what you want to go for. No matter what, if you want to play football in Division I NCAA or get a scholarship, you will have to stand out in high school. Not to say you have to play every position or anything, but you have to be one of the best, if not the best, player on your team, and certainly the best at your position. If you are going for fullback, get really big and strong. Talk to your strength training coach, get in the gym and do those squats, whatever you need to do. Get your weight up if you can while keeping your fat down, so run as much as you can. If you can run 2 miles right now, great, if not, work up to that, then keep adding longer distances each week until you are running 5 miles or so at a time. Basically, push yourself to be the best. Your coaches can and will help you improve your skills, techniques, strength/conditioning if you ask them. Also beware though, that some things just aren’t in the cards for some people, so keep your GPA up and don’t put all your eggs in one basket. Hope you do well!

Contact the school you plan on attending. They will be able to tell you what scholarships they have, how to apply and when the deadline is. Each school is different, but around now is when they start posting them and they are usually due around Feb-March. That is the best place to get scholarships.

I’m looking to go back to college, I graduated back in 2003 from high school. I’m a single mom and I work one full time job. I’ve been searching for grants that can help me further my education and I’ve applied for the pell grant and another one. But that leaves me about 5,000 short for school. I don’t want to have to apply for a loan because I know they check credit and that takes off points on my credit score. I don’t know if it helps but my major is digital movie production

If you have your bachelor’s degree already, you do not qualify for the Pell Grant at all. The Pell Grant pretty much pays for one degree. However, there are scholarships out there. If you are planning on attending graduate school, there is the research or graduate assistant programs which pays for your tuition and a monthly stipend. I will include some free resources below to find money for college. Good luck!

I’m 16 years old and I’m trying to get a part time job but everywhere i apply i don’t get a phone call here is my resume. Feel free to tell me what is wrong with it also can you guys tell me if it is in the right format.

Objective
Looking to obtain a part time job, one where I can acquire new skills, contribute my own and gain experience for my potential careers.

Highlight of qualifications & skills

vGood communication skills.
vVery ambitious and able to work well with others.
vGood math and money handling skills.
vExcellent writing skills.
vExcellent with Microsoft word and internet explorer programs.
vGreat ability to work under pressure.
vAble to maintain attention to detail in a high-energy environment.
Volunteer Experience

The Elms Daycare 2008

vAssisted with supervising and entertaining the children.
vTutored children with reading.

St. Stephens Catholic Elementary School 2008.
vAssisted with coaching the intermediate Boy’s basketball team.

Achievements and Certificates

vSt. Stephens Graduate Certificate.
vOur lady of Victory summer camp certificate.

Education

St. Marguerite D’Youville Catholic Secondary School Diploma

Student 2010-Present *References available upon request.

First off – what type of jobs are you applying for?

For only 16, your resume is actually quite impressive. I can’t think of anything I would change. If you don’t receive a phone call from a prospective employer, you should call them (if possible). Simply state that you are "checking to see if there are any positions available and that you wished to express your interest in the job(s)." Or something of that nature.

In doing so you will make your name more recognizable and memorable to the employer. Plus showing interest makes you a better candidate even before you get the interview.

Don’t be discouraged – these are economically challenging times. I’ve seen a lot of part-time ‘teenager jobs’ being filled by older folks who have been laid off, and many more jobs have simply vanished.

Hi, I know of two legit sites:
http://www.studentscholarshipsearch.com
and
http://www.scholarshippoints.com

I currently attend a Catholic school that has grades 1 through 8. I got transferred into this school two weeks into the school year in 6th grade. I’m now going into 7th, and I decided I much prefer a private school to a public one.

The main reason I got transferred out of my middle school was because it was in a bad neighborhood, but even my elementary school aggravated me because there was a group of us ‘gifted’ kids who were always bored.

My parents are convinced that after 8th grade I’ll just go the the local public high school, but I really don’t want to go there. I was thinking of a Catholic school farther south. My parents say they don’t have the money and that it’s far away and I would have no one to drive me there.

I’m afraid to apply for a scholarship (which is rarely given there) because I don’t want my parents to get mad. So, I have about a year to convince them that it’s best I attend the private school. The question is: How am I going to do it?

Thank you for all the answers!

It sounds like they have two or more issues with your choice; the money and the distance.

You suggest the chance of a scholarship; if you do win one, that would (hopefully) answer their first objection, assuming it covers enough of the cost that they can and are willing to pick up the rest. So, go ahead and apply; you can always decline if the other problems don’t work out.

Distance is trickier. They specify one immediate problem with it: getting you to and from the school. How could you answer that? You can’t drive yourself, and it sounds like they are unable to take you. I would guess that it’s far enough that the school doesn’t have buses out to your area, or simply doesn’t have a school bus system. You could take a taxi each day, but then how would you pay for it? What about public transportation — how safe is it? Is it even possible to take public transportation each way? Any friends nearby who attend, who might be able to take you? Any other options? Your parents are right — if you can’t get there, there’s little point in paying to go; so it’s up to you to find an answer for this, too.

Another thing about distance you didn’t mention but might be on their minds: how much time will it take out of your day to travel to and from it? Will this eat into your homework time? Or prevent you from doing extracurricular activities, because you have to get on the road? How could you be sure you have enough time for school, for travel, for homework, for extracurricular activities, for family time, and for sleep?
