Applying For Catholic High School Scholarships
February 16th, 2010

Written by Melanie Ullman
Catholic High School Scholarships are made for those students, who cannot cope up with the rising cost of tuition fees and are in a mental dilemma on how to continue their education. Their parents look for alternatives of getting some kind of financial aid for their children so that they are able to continue their education. These scholarship programs for Catholic high school are actually annual awards, especially for those students who cannot pay for the high Catholic tuition.

Students are considered eligible for the scholarship, based on their household income (there are also specific scholarships for high school freshmen). This is indeed a boon for the students as well as the parents of those students, who wish to carry on with their education, but cannot do so, due to the lack of any kind of financial help. Those who wish to apply for the applications should need to know about the schools of the region in which they would to have their child admitted.

wow you guys need to calm down.

first of all, why would I lie on a site, where I don’t know anyone. that makes no sense. and no, this is not a bragging question and im not a brat.

I got deffered ED so im applying RD and i wanna see my chances, if you don’t have anything nice to say just don’t type anything you low lifes.
what are you talking about? my interview actually went really well.
im actually pretty lucky as far as the internship goes.

my uncle has a business in new york thats kinda big you could say and he has a friend who was looking for help and i told my uncle i was looking for some type of internship so yeahh. i just got lucky i guess.
Okay Lou,

You can go ahead and think I’m lying about my resume and crap. yes, cuz thats just what i love to do fool people on the internet who i don’t know. not. so yeah go ahead, think that i could care less. and as for your comment as to all im doing is attracting negative feedback, your apparently the only one who thinks so, seeing as a got 2 supportive comments.

The only thing I’m wondering about is SAT Subject Test scores.

Otherwise, I’m actually surprised they deferred you, but as we all know, there’s some "luck of the draw" in all of this. I presume you don’t have "skeletons" in your closet from high school (e.g. cheating, suspensions, major attitude issues that might come through on letters of recommendation…?)

It’s my understanding that relatively few people who are deferred are accepted during regular admission (read this in a book written by a Dartmouth grad who worked as an assistant dean of admissions there for 4 years…) so I am concerned about your chances.

On paper, it should be a 9. In reality, my guess is it’s more a 4.

I hope I’m wrong on the latter and that you get in. If you do, make the most of it! If you don’t, no doubt there’s another school that will be lucky to have you if you indeed are everything your qualifications suggest.

What Can I do to help get into a great college…I’m a Junior In High School?

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

I’m a Junior in High School
SAT-haven’t taken but im hoping for at last a 2000 and hopefully a 2100
GPA-unweighted 3.75, weighted-4.3
I am taking 4 Honors Classes This year
I play competitive tennis and I’m ranked nationally and highly in my section… this will help me get into a Division III College or a lower level Division I college. I’ve played on Varsity tennis since I was a freshman
Extra Curricular Activities- I formed a program at the Boys and Girls Club in the inner city where I taught children how to play tennis over the summer… this is good for leadership
I’m looking to Volunteer for Special Olympics for Tennis
I’m a member of DECA Marketing Club, International Microfinance Club, and Keys Club
I write sports articles in the school newspaper
I want to go to colleges and universities like Georgetown, Bucknell, Emory University, Pomona, Claremont McKenna, Wash U in St. Louis, John Hopkins, NYU, and Tufts University. What else can I do to enhance my resume in order to get into some of the prestigious colleges and universities.

Thanks

You’re doing great! The only thing that I can think of is to stay in Honors classes when in High School. Sometimes, depending on the area, there are programs such as AVID or GATE, that also help prepare for college and looks good on paper.

Are there any Computer Science internships available to high school students?

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

I’m currently 16, a sophomore in high school, and I’m looking for experience in an internship. I’ll be applying NEXT year (2011) for a summer program, so I’m not looking for any specific opportunities. Rather, I’m looking for well-known software/computer science companies that offer internships to high school students over the summer.

I know Google has some interesting options, but from what I’ve seen you must be currently pursuing a BS degree. I AM attending a local junior college, but only towards an AS degree at the moment, so i doubt that would meet the requirement.

Are there any intern opportunities that don’t require the current pursuit of a degree?

schools.medianewsonline.com – I found such internship info here. It has lots of internships, job openings and scolarships for college students.

AJWS Volunteer Summer: Volunteer Testimony

American Jewish World Service Volunteer Summer
www.ajws.org/service

Join a network of Jews in tikkun olam (repairing the world) by devoting yourself to volunteering and active engagement in the developing world. Pursue justice for those in need and promote social change in Africa, Asia or Latin America. Build friendships with other volunteers and local community members. Immerse yourself in another culture. Devote yourself to a project of great worth.

WHAT:
Participants volunteer for seven weeks with an AJWS partner organization in a rural area in the developing world. Projects require intense physical labor (approximately seven hours a day, five days a week). Structured discussions occur at least four times a week, and opportunities abound for cross-cultural exchange and community building within the group.

Following the summer, participants continue in the domestic yearlong program which includes retreats, public speaking engagements, article writing, advocacy and volunteer service.

WHO:
Jewish young adults between the ages of 16 and 24.

All four groups consist of 15 participants. AJWS group leaders will guide each of the high school, college and post-college groups.

AJWS Volunteer Summer is a pluralistic program that welcomes and accommodates young adults from every stream of Judaism. We consider applications from within and outside of the U.S., and we value diverse backgrounds and experiences.

WHERE:
Four projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America are being offered this year. Three projects are for young adults 18-24, and one is for current high school juniors and seniors. Projects are hosted by AJWS-supported community-based organizations.

During the summer of 2006, projects included: building a new community center for a village in Ghana’s Upper Volta region; rebuilding roads in Guatemala; working on a sustainable fishing project and day care center in Thailand; and the high school group constructed a potable water system in a village outside of Siguatepeque, Honduras.

Harvard Secondary School Program?

Monday, March 8th, 2010

I’m a Junior in high school and am hoping to attend Harvard’s Secondary School Program this summer. I was wondering what students who have attended thought of the program and how it stands in comparison to other college summer programs. Thank you for any responses.

It’s really not worth it– it’s like $5000 or something, and I know several people who went and then didn’t get into Harvard. Depending on where you want to go to college, it might or might not help you during the admissions process– in some cases the Harvard name might help you, but top schools (like Ivy Leagues, etc.) do not consider the program that prestigious. You would be much better off applying to summer camps that are more selective (there are a lot of them that are only for juniors!) and cheaper (look on college confidential for ideas).

How can I start saving money now for an expensive summer program next year?

Monday, March 8th, 2010

I recently recieved an information packet in the mail about Junior Statesmen Summer School! It’s a 3-week program designed to help high-school students who are interested in politics to get a head start. I am very excited about this opportunity! However, since almost all of the courses are college-level and I am only in eighth grade right now, I want to wait another year before applying. In the meantime, I need to start saving some money. The total cost for the 3 weeks is $4,150! My family will not be able to afford to contribute very much to that. I will apply for a partial scholarship (I’m guessing about $1000-$2000, but I don’t know how much they will give me), but I will have to raise most of the rest of it by myself. I am already babysitting and mowing lawns. What else can I do that will help me earn money?

If you are good with pets…Think about a "Pet babysitting" service. Where you go to the homes of those who are on vacation to feed and water their pets and just give them a wee bit of attention. It is something that does not take money for you to start it.

I am having a college crisis right now. I really want to know which colleges would be right for me but…?

Sunday, March 7th, 2010

I am going to be a senior.. class of 08.
I need to know if I have a chance at making it to some great schools..
I have always considered myself very academic with the fact that i would have completed about 10 AP classes my whole high school career.
my average GPA is around a 4.13,, and I am hoping to make it a bit inflated my senior year (if that even will help me???)
I hate how i absolutely suck at test taking.. i got an 1860 on my SAT.. (i feel as if that blew all my chances out the window)

-More about me.. THEATRE THEATRE.. That’s what I live and breathe!!!!!!! I am in the International Thespian Society, am VP in the Drama Club, have done many shows, sing.. and all sorts.
-I have completed a Shakespearean Conservatory program this summer ( at a junior college) with adults called Actors’ Academy
-I have done loads of community service through theatre.
-I have participated in Pagaetry (flags) my freshman year

my choices are: NYU BU UCLA USC Ithaca…

SUGGEST!!!!!!! PLEASE.

Knowing your unweighted GPA would be helpful…colleges really usually only want to know your GPA on the 4-point scale.

However, I think you have a very good chance at Ithaca and BU and decent chances at NYU, UCLA, and USC.

How have you done on your AP tests? That would be nice to know, too. Doesn’t matter all that much if you take 10 APs and get 2s, not that you did, lol :p

Does Bill Gates donate to high school teens for extra school activities?

Sunday, March 7th, 2010

I want to go to this summer program/camp. You can earn college credit and looks good on my college application. It is somewhat like a "once in a high school life chance" because few are selected to take advantage of it. The only problem is … it is about $2300. My mom won’t pay for it and I can’t get that much money by summer (I am going to be a junior…but right now I am 15…no job for me…..) Do you think I can write to Bill Gates asking for a donation so I can go to this program. I heard he REALLY supports education. I really want to go and better yet, the program involves technology =]

him and wife donate quite a bit around the seattle school areas…i never heard of individual people though.
