Applying For Catholic High School Scholarships
February 16th, 2010

Written by Melanie Ullman
Catholic High School Scholarships are made for those students, who cannot cope up with the rising cost of tuition fees and are in a mental dilemma on how to continue their education. Their parents look for alternatives of getting some kind of financial aid for their children so that they are able to continue their education. These scholarship programs for Catholic high school are actually annual awards, especially for those students who cannot pay for the high Catholic tuition.

Students are considered eligible for the scholarship, based on their household income (there are also specific scholarships for high school freshmen). This is indeed a boon for the students as well as the parents of those students, who wish to carry on with their education, but cannot do so, due to the lack of any kind of financial help. Those who wish to apply for the applications should need to know about the schools of the region in which they would to have their child admitted.

The Hardest Questions Aren’t on the Test: Lessons from an Innovative Urban School

January 21, 2010

ABSTRACT

Presented by Linda Nathan.

Boston Arts Academy comprises an ethnically and socioeconomically diverse student body, yet 95 percent of its graduates are accepted to college. This remarkable success rate, says Principal Linda Nathan, is in large part due to asking the right questions and being open to seeking answers collaboratively with faculty, parents, and the students themselves.

In her new book, The Hardest Questions Aren’t on the Test: Lessons from an Innovative Urban School, Nathan gives insights into the process of grappling with these questions, attempting to implement solutions, and evaluating the outcomes. Stories that are inspirational as well as heartbreaking reveal the missteps and failures—as well as the successes. Nathan doesnt claim to have all the answers, but seeks to share the philosophies and practices that have worked for the BAA. Principals, educators, and parents will find many new ideas to bring to their own schools.

Chapters focus on questions all schools can consider, such as:
· How and why does a school develop a shared vision of what it stands for?
· What makes a great teacher, and how can a principal help good teachers improve?
· Why must schools talk openly about race and achievement, and what happens when they do?

Helpful.

We need to stop blaming whites and get on with equality and what it actually means…being equal in all things including taking responsibility and not playing the race card every time someone doesn’t get their way.

The majority of Americans expects equality and gives equality. If we are ever going to be "color blind" it has to be all races that strive for this. Blacks need to be color blind too and stop judging whites based on the color of their skin.

Here it is:

BUCHANAN TO OBAMA
By Patrick J. Buchanan

Barack says we need to have a conversation about race in America . Fair enough. But this time, it has to be a two-way conversation. White America needs to be heard from, not just lectured to.. This time, the Silent Majority needs to have its convictions, grievances and demands heard. And among them are these:

First, America has been the best country on earth for black folks. It was here that 600,000 black people, brought from Africa in slave ships, grew into a community of 40 million, were introduced to Christian salvation, and reached the greatest levels of freedom and prosperity blacks have ever known. Wright ought to go down on his knees and thank God he is an American.

Second, no people anywhere has done more to lift up blacks than white Americans. Untold trillions have been spent since the ‘ 60s on welfare, food stamps, rent supplements, Section 8 housing, Pell grants, student loans, legal services, Medicaid, Earned Income Tax Credits and poverty programs designed to bring the African-American community into the mainstream. Governments, businesses and colleges have engaged in discrimination against white folks — with affirmative action, contract set-asides and quotas — to advance black applicants over white applicants. Churches, foundations, civic groups, schools and individuals all over America have donated their time and money to support soup kitchens, adult education, day care, retirement and nursing homes for blacks.

We hear the grievances. Where is the gratitude???

Barack talks about new ‘ladders of opportunity’ for blacks. Let him go to Altoona ? And Johnstown , and ask the white kids in Catholic schools how many were visited lately by Ivy League recruiters handing out scholarships for ‘deserving’ white kids.? Is white America really responsible for the fact that the crime and incarceration rates for African-Americans are seven times those of white America ? Is it really white America ’s fault that illegitimacy in the African-American community has hit 70 percent and the black dropout rate from high schools in some cities has reached 50 percent?

Is that the fault of white America or, first and foremost, a failure of the black community itself?

As for racism, its ugliest manifestation is in interracial crime, and especially interracial crimes of violence. Is Barack Obama aware that while white criminals choose black victims 3 percent of the time, black criminals choose white victims 45 percent of the time?

Is Barack aware that black-on-white rapes are 100 times more common than the reverse, that black-on-white robberies were 139 times as common in the first three years of this decade as the reverse?

We have all heard ad nauseam from the Rev. Al about Tawana Brawley, the Duke rape case and Jena . And all turned out to be hoaxes. But about the epidemic of black assaults on whites that are real, we hear nothing.

Sorry, Barack, some of us have heard it all before, about 40 years and 40 trillion tax dollars ago.
We are a Christian Nation even if Mr. Obama says we are not.
This needs to be passed around because, this is a message everyone needs to hear!!!

I generally agree, but he didn’t need to bring Christianity into it.

=======================

Good points, eh??? What do YOU think??

Pretty soon white Americans will be the minority and many will see how it feels to be a minority in America.

I could care less about a "race talk" and I’m sure many feel the same. Those of us who were raised in a non-racist environment already know how to get along with our fellow man regardless of skin tones. Its the racists that need this "special talk" and fortunately they are in the minority.

Why did Pat Buchanan say this to Obama?

I really think more needs to be said on this issue. The life of a slave was horrendous but they made a place for their children and grandchildren and subsequent generations. Had they stayed in west Africa where they were snatched, there would have been little if any hope for subsequent generations. Now we have a biracial President, Oprah Winfrey is the most popular person on TV, Tiger Woods earns millions as do the Williams sisters and countless MBA, NBA and NFL standouts.

There are some who say reparations need to be paid for slavery but I think you’re right. We’re making those reparations by means of public assistance, free education K-12 as well as churches reaching out to the poorer communities.

Bill Cosby tried to address this issue and although he pointed out the facts he didn’t suggest a solution other than education. European immigrants were able to assimilate. I really don’t understand why a great number of African-Americans have failed to assimilate but we have to keep in mind that the barriers to assimilation have only been down since ‘64-’65. It may take 50-100 years for the wrongs of segregation to be righted. Who knows? But we do need to discuss these things openly and intelligently.

We are a Christian Nation even if Mr. Obama says we are not.
Your pathetic Joey and you deserve what you get.
Well it is true what Pat said we don’t talk about it Whites get lectured.
Hey Anti science I agree and they are kicking us to the floor. No to mention they were there own slavers! They forgive them selfs?

Yes we do need to have a conversation.
We need to recognize that racism exist.
We need to recognize that minorities are as racist as those they point fingers at.
We need to recognize that because one white man is racist doesn’t make the entire race racist.
We need to recognize that I have to watch my language and be subject at anytime to a racist related comment even though i am not racist just because i am white and i may say or do something that can be INTERPRETED as racist.
We need to separate facts from fiction and call a cat a cat in racism cases.
We need to tell minorities that if they have had incidents in their lives it doesn’t mean that anytime someone give them a side look they are racist.(white people have bad day too)
We need to understand that white people are living the oppression the minorities supposedly suffer from as well … if you don’t believe me move you and your family to Harlem or East LA or South Florida … see how well you will be seen, accepted and treated.
And finally minorities need to understand that the more they cry "wolves" the more there will be resentment towards them and the less respect they will get … educated professor or not.

JOEY: We have successful black athletes, journalists, politicians, doctors, lawyers, entrepreneurs, actors, personalities, owners, entertainers, pilots, generals, professors, deans, researchers, scientists etc …. etc …
you mean to tell me that ALL of them were "lucky"? had a "white" man help them get the job? were rich at birth?
They are probably all ashamed to see and hear about the excuses and cries everyday for those who failed and blame others for their failures.
I respect those black successful people more than anybody else in this nation because they had the courage to say … I will not take the easy path to demanding respect or cry racism and foul every time i fall … i will EARN respect and make a name for myself … ON MY OWN!
You take it from a minority here who will never blame the white man for not making it. You either want to or you don’t. Blame your parents for letting you rot in hell with 10 siblings but don’t blame the system if they were to lousy to work or earn a living or hold off the "sleeping bag".
I am proud of the black community who made it but i can’t stand those who refuse to fight.

I agree with you 100%! I feel that blacks are the ones to keep racism going! Blacks who put forth effort to accomplish something in life do but unfortunatly too many of them dont and choose to live a life of poverty & crime…just like many whites do as well.
