Applying For Catholic High School Scholarships
February 16th, 2010

Written by Melanie Ullman
Catholic High School Scholarships are made for those students, who cannot cope up with the rising cost of tuition fees and are in a mental dilemma on how to continue their education. Their parents look for alternatives of getting some kind of financial aid for their children so that they are able to continue their education. These scholarship programs for Catholic high school are actually annual awards, especially for those students who cannot pay for the high Catholic tuition.

Students are considered eligible for the scholarship, based on their household income (there are also specific scholarships for high school freshmen). This is indeed a boon for the students as well as the parents of those students, who wish to carry on with their education, but cannot do so, due to the lack of any kind of financial help. Those who wish to apply for the applications should need to know about the schools of the region in which they would to have their child admitted.

First off – what type of jobs are you applying for?

For only 16, your resume is actually quite impressive. I can’t think of anything I would change. If you don’t receive a phone call from a prospective employer, you should call them (if possible). Simply state that you are "checking to see if there are any positions available and that you wished to express your interest in the job(s)." Or something of that nature.

In doing so you will make your name more recognizable and memorable to the employer. Plus showing interest makes you a better candidate even before you get the interview.

Don’t be discouraged – these are economically challenging times. I’ve seen a lot of part-time ‘teenager jobs’ being filled by older folks who have been laid off, and many more jobs have simply vanished.

19 units!?!?! help!!!?

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

i graduated high school early and went ahead into a community college. there i finished the year with about 15 units and i plan to take more over the summer. i’m starting my freshman year at a university fall ‘08(12 units there) and plan to be a part time student at 2 other comm colleges totaling of 19 units because the classes i need for my major are full at the university and i choose to go to do it at a nearby walking distance comm college for(4 units). the other course is online at my hometown comm college far away(for 3 units). since i’m living on campus, i also plan to work part time there during free time. i’m a really rigourous kid and i have a college gpa of about 3.6-3.7 and am almost comming in as a freshamn with soph standing. i want to be a nurse and so i’m doing lots of volunteer work and course work as well to show the nursing program that i’m a far more better candidate than many other applicants. i was wondering if 19 units is so much to handle since i’ve never done it

19 units would be tough, but perhaps doable, if you were continuing in a familiar program and knew what to expect, especially if you had taken the summer off and were feeling relaxed and fresh. I think what you have planned is too much for just about anyone, no matter how good you might be.

Let me know what you think! I’m open to anything really. Suggest schools if you want to–however, I will not leave the Midwest/East Coast. :)

Thanks for reading this!

You have an excellent chance of getting in!!! You have all the great academic points covered. I would recommend a couple of things:

Get letters of reference from people in your community such as from your church or others who know of your accomplishments. Try not to get them from teachers as you want to be a "well-rounded" person!

If you can, do volunteer work this summer. Animal shelter, reading to the elderly or blind something like that. This shows that you give back and care about your community.

When you get an interview with univ. admissions, be sure to dress neat, shake hand, good eye contact and smile! Take your time answering Q as it shows you don’t jump into answers but instead, think and reason.

GOOD LUCK!!!!

Does this advertisement for my University’s Summer Internship program sound discriminating?

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

Cal State University, Fullerton’ Summer Internship Program Application is misleading and sounds discriminatory towards students of higher income.

You let me know.

This was sent to my school email.
Read It:

Attention: CSUF Students
Information and Application

The Sales Leadership Center
2009 Summer Internship Program
(Version: 5/20/09)

The Sales Leadership Center at the Mihaylo College of Business and Economics, Cal State Fullerton, is pleased to announce an exciting summer intern program.

Overall Description
Students selected for this 2009 program will receive an 8-week paid summer internship working 20 hours per week at a pay rate of $12 per hour .
The internship will consist of training (approximately three half days) by The Sales Leadership Center and the opportunity to work at a “host company” in need of your talents.
Number of internships available: 30

Who is Eligible?
The program is being directed to undergraduate and graduate students at Cal State Fullerton. Because the internship is centered on sales and marketing internships, we believe many of the applicants will be from the Mihayho College of Business and Economics. However, it is open to all CSUF students.
The program is being offered in partnership with the Orange County Summer Youth Employment Program and as such there are certain additional guidelines:
•Interns must be age 16-24 at the time they apply for the program.
•Applicants must be able to provide proof of legal right to work in the U.S. There are a wide variety of Right to Work documents that may be used. Further information is provided in the Application section below.
•Applicants must fall within certain income guidelines. Again, further information in the Application section below.
If selected for the program, you will simultaneously be:
•A summer intern in the 2009 Summer Intern Program sponsored by The Sales Leadership Center at Cal State Fullerton.
•Expected to make strong contributions to the projects and on-going business of your host companies.
•Technically, an employee of Orange County.

Timing
As mentioned, the internship program will run for eight weeks. Your specific work hours will vary by company.
The eight weeks of the internship are:
Week of internshipCalendar Week (2009)
16/21 – 6/27
26/28 – 7/4
37/5 – 7/11
47/12 – 7/18
57/19 – 7/25
67/26 – 8/1
78/2 – 8/8
88/9 – 8/15
Application

The Sales Leadership Center
Summer 2009 Internship Program

DUE DATE:

Wednesday, June 3, 2009

APPLICATIONS MUST BE IN HARD COPY (PAPER) FORM. A COMPLETE APPLICATION WILL CONTAIN THESE THREE ITEMS:•Item A: Completed OC SUMMER YOUTH EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM APPLICATION
•Item B: Completed 2009 SLC SUMMER INTERNSHIP APPLICATION
•Item C: Your resume

Item A: OC SUMMER YOUTH EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM APPLICATION
Instructions to access a copy of the application:
1.Go to: www.ocsummerjobs.org
2.Scroll down the page and click on “APPLICANT”
3.Click on the words “Click here for the application form”
4.Fill out the application and print out
Or, simply go to:
http://egov.ocgov.com/vgnfiles/ocgov/Community Investment/Content/SummerYouth/OCSYEPApplication-final.pdf

Eligibility
There are two types of eligibility that the program requires as set forth by the OC Summer Youth Employment Program.
Right to Work Eligibility
There are several ways to establish Right to Work Eligibility. Many are described in the opening section of the application itself. Additional information is available at:
http://egov.ocgov.com/vgnfiles/ocgov/Community Investment/Content/SummerYouth/I-9.pdf
If you have any questions regarding RTW eligibility, please feel free to call 714-567-7528 OR TDD 711.

Income Eligibility
The OC Summer Youth Employment Program is geared toward students who have some level of financial need – typical of many CSUF students.
If you live at home with just your parents, your household income is $1,000,000 per year and your allowance is $1,000 per week, there will likely be a hurdle with regard to income eligibility.
However, if you’re like most CSUF students, you’re probably “scrambling” to make ends meet. Here are several examples of students that would qualify:
•Students that are receiving any kind of financial aid
•Students that live on their own
•Students that are financially independent
There are many other examples of students who would meet the eligibility guidelines. If you have questions, please contact us. If you are not quite sure if you meet the eligibility requirements, we would encourage you to error on the side of applying.
When filling out the questions regarding income on the application, please:
•Be truthful.
•Do NOT exaggerate or overstate your income.
While several factors are considered, a useful reference point is the set of guidelines on the following link:
http://egov.ocgov.com/vgnfiles/ocgov/Community Investment/Content/SummerYouth/IncomeGuideline

It is part of the stimulus money that goes through the Workforce Investment Act "pot", and that money has income restrictions. That’s the federal requirement, not one by the university.

Summer Camp JV phone Slam

Summer Camp JV phone Slam
The Dog House stars JV (Jeff Vandergrift) and Elvis (Dan Lay). The two met in 1993 and have been radio cohosts together for over 15 years, (along with JV’s high school friend and show producer “Hollywood” Lance Otani) starting on Hot 97.7 in San Jose, California. In 1995, program directors Michael Martin and Joe Cunningham of Wild 107 eagerly hired them to fill a timeslot vacated by Mancow Muller. The Dog House quickly became a household name after joining Wild 107.7 (which subsequently moved to Wild 94.9), as they became the #1 rated morning show in the Bay Area[2] receiving higher ratings than Howard Stern;[3] only to be terminated several years later due to off-air controversy. Shortly after being fired from Wild 94.9, they helped launch KIFR at the end of 2005 before moving to New York City, where they joined 92.3 Free FM. The new show went under the title JV & Elvis during the first few months until the hosts revived The Dog House name. Two years later they were fired again by CBS Radio in New York for an on-air prank.[1]

Would someone plz post an Accomplishments BIO of OBama as I am of Hillary?

Monday, March 8th, 2010

This is only a short list of the good she has done, starting back in her early life.
You can pull it up by bringing her history BIO up online. There is much much more.

Early life
Raised in a politically conservative household,[11] at age thirteen she helped canvass South Side Chicago following the very close 1960 U.S. presidential election, finding evidence of electoral fraud against Republican candidate Richard Nixon,[12] and volunteered for Republican candidate Barry Goldwater in the U.S. presidential election of 1964.[13] Her early political development was shaped most strongly by her energizing high school history teacher, who got her to read Goldwater’s classic The Conscience of a Conservative[14] and who was, like her father, a fervent anti-communist, and by her Methodist youth minister, like her mother concerned with issues of social justice; with the minister she saw and met civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. in Chicago in 1962.

Rodham attended the 1968 Republican National Convention in Miami, where she decided to leave the Republican Party for good; she was upset over how Richard Nixon’s campaign had portrayed Rockefeller and what Rodham perceived as the "veiled" racist messages of the convention

That summer, she worked her way across Alaska, washing dishes in Mount McKinley National Park and sliming salmon in a fish processing cannery in Valdez (which fired her and shut down overnight when she complained about unhealthy conditions).

Law school

During her second year, she worked at the Yale Child Study Center,[34] learning about new research on early childhood brain development and working as a research assistant on the seminal work, Beyond the Best Interests of the Child (1973).[35][36] She also took on cases of child abuse at Yale-New Haven Hospital,[35] and volunteered at New Haven Legal Services to provide free advice for the poor.[

and volunteered at New Haven Legal Services to provide free advice for the poor.[34] In the summer of 1970, she was awarded a grant to work at Marian Wright Edelman’s Washington Research Project, where she was assigned to Senator Walter Mondale’s Subcommittee on Migratory Labor, researching migrant workers’ problems in housing, sanitation, health and education;[37][38] Edelman would become a significant mentor to her.[38]

In the late spring of 1971, she began dating Bill Clinton, who was also a law student at Yale.

Early Arkansas years

Rodham co-founded the Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families, a state-level alliance with the Children’s Defense Fund, in 1977.

For much of that time[81] she served as the chair of that board, the first woman to do so.[82] During her time as chair, funding for the Corporation was expanded from $90 million to $300 million,[70] and she successfully battled against President Ronald Reagan’s initial attempts to reduce the funding and change the nature of the organization.

Clinton appointed her chair of the Rural Health Advisory Committee the same year,[83] where she successfully obtained federal funds to expand medical facilities in Arkansas’ poorest areas without affecting doctors’ fees.

In one of the most important initiatives of the entire Clinton governorship,[92] she fought a prolonged but ultimately successful battle against the Arkansas Education Association[92] to put mandatory teacher testing as well as state standards for curriculum and classroom size in place.[92] She introduced Arkansas’ Home Instruction Program for Preschool Youth in 1985, a program that helps parents work with their children in preschool preparedness and literacy.[94] She was named Arkansas Woman of the Year in 1983 and Arkansas Mother of the Year in 1984.

First Lady of the United States

When Bill Clinton took office as president in January 1993, Hillary Rodham Clinton became the First Lady of the United States, and announced that she would be using that form of her name.[116] She was the first First Lady to hold a post-graduate degree[117] and to have her own professional career up to the time of entering the White House.[118] She was also the first to take up an office in the West Wing of the White House:[48] the First Lady usually stays in the East Wing. She is regarded as the most openly empowered presidential wife in American history, save for Eleanor Roosevelt.[119]

Along with Senator Ted Kennedy, she was the major force behind the State Children’s Health Insurance Program in 1997, a federal effort that provided state support for children whose parents were unable to provide them with health coverage.

She promoted nationwide immunization against childhood illnesses and encouraged older women to seek a mammogram to detect breast cancer, with coverage provided by Medicare.[140] She successfully sought to increase research funding for prostate cancer and childhood asthma at the National Institutes of Health.

The First Lady worked to investigate reports of an illness that affected veterans of the Gulf War, which became known as the Gulf War syndrome.[48] Together with Attorney General Janet Reno, Clinton helped create the Office on Violence Against Women at the Department of Justice.

In 1997, she initiated and shepherded the Adoption and Safe Families Act, which she regarded as her greatest accomplishment as First Lady.[48] As First Lady, Clinton hosted numerous White House Conferences, including ones on Child Care (1997),[141] Early Childhood Development and Learning (1997),[142] and Children and Adolescents (2000),[143] and the first-ever White House Conferences on Teenagers (2000)[144] and Philanthropy (1999).

Hillary Clinton traveled to 79 countries during this time,[146] breaking the mark for most-travelled First Lady held by Pat Nixon.[147] In a September 1995 speech before the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, Clinton argued very forcefully against practices that abused women around the world and in China itself,[148] declaring "that it is no longer acceptable to discuss women’s rights as separate from human rights"[148] and resisting Chinese pressure to soften her remarks.[146] She was one of the most prominent international figures at the time to speak out against the treatment of Afghan women by the Islamist fundamentalist Taliban that had seized control of Afghanistan.[149][150] She helped create Vital Voices, an international initiative sponsored by the United States to promote the participation of women in the political processes of their countries.

Traditional duties

Clinton initiated and was Founding Chair of the Save America’s Treasures program, a national effort that matched federal funds to private donations for the purpose of preserving and restoring historic items and sites,[184] including the flag that inspired the Star Spangled Banner and the First Ladies Historic Site in Canton, Ohio.[48] She was head of the White House Millennium Council,[185] and initiated the Millennium Project with monthly lectures that discuss futures studies, one of which became the first live simultaneous webcast from the White House. Clinton also created the first Sculpture Garden there, which displayed large contemporary American works of art loaned from museums in the Jacqueline Kennedy Garden.[186]

Senate election of 2000
Clinton has served on five Senate committees: Committee on Budget (2001–2002),[203] Committee on Armed Services (since 2003),[204] Committee on Environment and Public Works (since 2001),[203] Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (since 2001)[203] and Special Committee on Aging.[205] She is also a Commissioner of the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe[206] (since 2001).[207]

Following the September 11, 2001 attacks, Clinton sought to obtain funding for the recovery efforts in New York City and security improvements in her state. Working with New York’s senior senator, Charles Schumer, she was instrumental in quickly securing $21 billion in funding for the World Trade Center site’s redevelopment. She subsequently took a leading role in investigating the health issues faced by 9/11 first responders.[211] Clinton voted for the USA Patriot Act in October 2001, as did all but one senator. In 2005, when the act was up for renewal, she worked to address some of the civil liberties concerns with it,[212] before voting in favor of a compromise renewed act in March 2006 that gained large majority support.[213]

As a member of the Senate Committee on Armed Services, Clinton strongly supported military action in Afghanistan, saying it was a chance to combat terrorism while improving the lives of Afghan women who suffered under the Taliban government.

TAKE NOTE: "should such action be required"
Now those who go on about her vote can eat crow!!….

Clinton voted in favor of the October 2002 Iraq War Resolution, which authorized United States President George W. Bush to use military force against Iraq, should such action be required to enforce a United Nations Security Council Resolution after pursuing with diplomatic efforts.

In late 2005, Clinton said that while immediate withdrawal from Iraq would be a mistake, Bush’s pledge to stay "until the job is done" is also misguided, as it gives Iraqis "an open-ended invitation not to take care of themselves.

Clinton voted in 2005 against the confirmation of John Roberts as Chief Justice of the United States,[220] and in 2006 against the nomination of Samuel Alito to the United States Supreme Court;[221] both were confirmed. In 2005, Clinton called for the Federal Trade Commission to investigate how hidden sex scenes showed up in the controversial video game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.[222] Along with Senators Joe Lieberman and Evan Bayh, she introduced the Family Entertainment Protection Act, intended to protect children from inappropriate content found in video games.

In March 2007 she voted in favor of a war spending bill that required President Bush to begin withdrawing troops from Iraq within a certain deadline; it passed almost completely along party lines[234] but was subsequently vetoed by President Bush.

In May 2007 a compromise war funding bill that removed withdrawal deadlines but tied funding to progress benchmarks for the Iraqi government passed the Senate by a vote of 80-14 and would be signed by Bush; Clinton was one of those who voted against it.

Clinton has enjoyed high approval ratings for her job as senator within New York, reaching an all-time high of 72 to 74 percent approving (including half of Republicans).

Gee, I could copy and paste Wikipedia as well.
What does that mean?

I’ve done my own research on both candidates for the past year.
I’ve been reading about Clinton "doings" in the news for years.

I will never be swayed by "opinion" over my own research.
I also don’t expect to change anyone’s mind because I say so.

You want facts on Obama, do your own research.
Try his website or some of the websites that lists all the candidates

Just a couple of sites I’ve visited.

When do I start applying and how do I start?

Monday, March 8th, 2010

Ok, I’m about to start my senior year of College where I have been studying computers (specifically multimedia and programing). I have a GPA of 3.96 and have a 4.0 in all my classes at this university (I got two B’s in community college classes I took while in high school) so far. In my free time, I started a website design company (Jenn’s Web Design) where I make/update websites for small businesses and I also tutor computers, mostly with older people, for $20 per hour. So far everyone I have worked for has loved my tutoring and I really enjoy helping teach people who don’t know how to turn the computer on and off correctly to check email, write letters, make spreadsheets, and so on. I have done some higher-level tutoring, tutoring a non-traditional student at my school in our programming classes (she is a year behind me).

I have experience in multiple fields (a summer at IHOP , two summers at Schiltterbahn, a semester as a secretary for a lawyer, a year as a computer lab assistant and about to start my second year as the computer lab supervisor, just to name a few).

My dream job would be to work in the education department of a software company and be the one who puts on those workshops about how to use their software. I am really quick at learning software so I am not really concerned with what company I work for (although if I could choose I would go with Adobe and teach Actionscripting workshops because it combines my love of Multimedia and Programming). I would like to do this because I love to travel and I really enjoy (and am good at) teaching, especially computers. This job would pay me to travel and put on these workshops, combining these loves.

My question is this: where and when do I start? Should I apply now even though I am unavailable for eight months or should I wait until closer to graduation? Should I just submit an application to HR of several companies or should I try to find an insider (and where would I find them?)?

Please give me some direction. Thanks for your time.

This is a great goal, and you should be aware that you are competing with more senior people, people who have much more experience and people who are already in the company.

You must have a strategy for job searching…just throwing out resumes is like not sending any out at all.

First, make sure that your portfolio is together…what work have you done that already mimics what it is you want to do?
What are those results?
Have a first rate resume together (and you can do it yourself, or pay if you want to).
Identify the companies, the jobs, the regions, the person you would work for, the problems that are there that you can solve and create your value proposition. These are the jobs that everyone wants. When I was in HR, the learning center was one of my responsibilities. Being a trainer was a key job..you represent the company and the product.
More than knowing the product, you MUST know how to teach. Very few companies, especially today, will hire a trainer who does not have a background in adult learning. You must know what makes adult learners different from child learners.
Finally(at least for now) the direction of training is changing, and traveling is not such a big part of it anymore. Webinars are where it’s at, so you must be skilled in training via the web, which is very different from training in person.

Finding out who to submit your marketing passage to is quite simple…call the company you want to work for and ask who the training manager is, or who the product manager is, etc.

If it’s a public company, you can find a lot of information on the website.

Position, position, position.

What can you do for the company that someone already there cannot?
What can you do that no one else can?
How will you save the company money, increase its revenues, innovate?

I suggest you get the 5 o’clock club books to help you plan your strategy. It is an excellent set of books that mimics its in-person job search strategy clubs, and they really keep you on track.

I used to run a job club, but now that I do much more college strategy, one of my staffers runs our club (not 5 o’clock but we use its strategy).

Good luck with your search.
