Applying For Catholic High School Scholarships
February 16th, 2010

Written by Melanie Ullman
Catholic High School Scholarships are made for those students, who cannot cope up with the rising cost of tuition fees and are in a mental dilemma on how to continue their education. Their parents look for alternatives of getting some kind of financial aid for their children so that they are able to continue their education. These scholarship programs for Catholic high school are actually annual awards, especially for those students who cannot pay for the high Catholic tuition.

Students are considered eligible for the scholarship, based on their household income (there are also specific scholarships for high school freshmen). This is indeed a boon for the students as well as the parents of those students, who wish to carry on with their education, but cannot do so, due to the lack of any kind of financial help. Those who wish to apply for the applications should need to know about the schools of the region in which they would to have their child admitted.

Do you know of any college scholarships or grants for the children of a prisoner?

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

I heard somewhere that you can get a college scholarship or grant if one of your parents is incarcerated. If anyone has any information on this subject I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks!

well, you can apply for all scholarships and tell them (in your essay they require) how you overcame all of that, and beat the odds.

i’m proud of ya, and your not even my kid. good for you!!

try to aim for grants/scholarships more… they are not to be paid back. its confusing sometimes, but just keep applying.

every big (and small) company you see (manufacturer, orgs, corps and groups also) all have grants and scholarships they hand out like candy. Walmart, Kmart, Target, Coke, computer companies etc etc etc

heres a link with a HUGE amount of some available. some you will need to copy and paste into a new window. also, fastweb (take the time to fill it in) will search databases and get back to you with a list of scholarships you qualify for.

Also contact all mens, womens associations in your state, they almost always have grants & scholarships. What ever field you are going into, contact the orgs, associations etc for them; Also check with professional organizations related to your career interests, such as the American Bar Association or the American Medical Association. they also always have scholarships. Research and dig, call then write. Its all worth it.

OVER apply; it doesnt hurt to have too many, and the extra funds can help with housing.

Should money be cut from veterans services to finance the dream act & offer college scholarships as well as?

Should money be cut from veterans services to finance the dream act & offer college scholarships as well as with regard to the dream act ?

Absolutely not. But,it wouldn’t surprise me at all if that is what actually happens. Our government would rather fund the education of the children of criminals than fund the needed benefits for the true hero’s of our country.

Am I too late to apply for college scholarships?

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

I have applied to two colleges and am waiting to find out if I’ve been accepted. However, I have not applied for any kind of scholarships or financial aid. Am I too late?

Considering that you have not even been accepted to a school, you are still eligible for 95% of scholarships. Each scholarship has it’s own deadline. You need to obtain the paperwork and read it to know it’s requirements. Searching and applying for scholarships is not simple, but spending time on it is more financially rewarding than most people realize.

Where can I find lesser known college scholarships?

Monday, March 8th, 2010

There are some scholarships out there that noone knows about. I have applied to a few scholarships on fastweb.com, but I am looking for a site that might be less popular. My grades were decent in college, but not great (3.3 gpa). I am a great writer though and would love to find obscure essay writing scholarships that attract fewer applicants. I will be a grad student in a physical therapy program. Any suggestions?

I’m in the Kiwanis. I have been doing research on scholarship for about 2 years so we can give info to the kids in our youth programs so they can apply.

1. Go to www.ysa.org and sign up for their free newsletter. From time to time, major corporations use them to announce their scholarships.

2. Several corporations offer scholarships in the $1,500 to $10,000 range.

2.A An example of this is Best Buy ($1,500 from each store, and then national winners get $10,000). Its a 1 page application form and a 1 page essay on what you have learned by doing community service. Go to their website at: www.bestbuy.com – then click on: about us

2.B Go to www.kohls.com Same type of scholarship. If they have a store in your state, then you can apply if you have not graduated from high school. And you can start applying at age 6 (that is not a typo – age 6).

2.C Check with the McDonalds’ stores in your area. Sometimes each locality (say county) association of store owners offer a scholarship. And sometimes the local Ronald McDonald House does also.

2.D Check with your local cable company. For example, Comcast offer an intership and scholarship for people interested in mass communications. Hmmm, a job and a scholarship which probably leads to a job offer with the company. Not bad.

There are a lot more.

HERE IS HOW I CAME UP WITH THESE – AND A LOT MORE:

1. Do a spreadsheet so you can track which company’s websites you visit.

2. Come up with a company’s name. Say CVS Pharmacy.

3. Go to www.quicken.com and find out what companies compete in that market segment with CVS (Rite Aid, Elkerd, Drug Fair, Krogers).

4. Then go to the website of each company. On the homepage, look for something like:
about us
corp info

5. Go there and then look for something like:
community
community involvement
social responsibility
giving back

This is where you will find out the details.

Many corporations prefer to give scholarships to students where they have stores located. This way, they are seen as "good neighbors". Its a good selling point to the local residents and politicians.

Also be sure to check each utility company in your state. In Virginia, there is 1 electric company with headquarters in the state – but they grant scholarships in counties where they do not sell electricity (Why? Cause each county has representatives in the state’s General Assembly where their elected representatives vote on bills impacting the utility company. What is a few thousand dollars in scholarships to a multi-bilion dollar company?)
